Where to take the civic exam, how to register and when? The essentials of the process, with official links.
You must pass the civic exam before submitting your application for a residence permit (first application for a multi-year residence card or a resident card) or for naturalisation. Here's how it works.
Where to take the exam?
The exam takes place at an approved exam centre. The official list of approved centres is published by the Ministry of the Interior on formation-civique.interieur.gouv.fr.
How to register?
Registration and appointment details are given on the same official site. Refer to it for available dates and slots near you.
Good to know: if you take one of our civic-exam preparation courses, we book your exam seat for you — sitting the exam at an approved partner centre is included. You don't have to handle the registration yourself.
When to take it?
Since passing the exam is a condition for your application, it's best to prepare and take it ahead of your administrative steps, to avoid any delay.
